Education and Training
I possess a real thirst for knowledge, always looking to learn new and different things. This yearning to continually grow is partially reflected here.
Masters of Public Administration (MPA) - Kean University- Union, NJ. (1996) - My interest in government began long before I made the decision to seek public office. I became involved in community affairs as a teenager helping local organizations such as the first aid squad, fire department and scout troops. As I grew, this sense of community became ever stronger. I believed that it was everyone's responsibility to give back whatever they could to improve their community and serve others. I successfully ran for municipal office on a platform of improving the functioning of government, reducing waste and getting spending under control. I ran with a clear message that I would get in, get it done and get out! I kept to my word. After leaving office I chose to pursue my MPA. I graduated from Kean with a 3.93 cumulative average and was inducted into the Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society. My Masters thesis was a study on the efficacy of the D.A.R.E program in the community I had served.
Bachelors of Arts - Speech Communication - Temple University, Philadelphia, PA (1977) -
Major - Rhetoric and Communications / Minor - Psychology - Undergraduate experiences vary from person to person. My experience was reflective of my interests and desire to explore many opportunities. While at Temple, I served in various capacities in student government, was a photographer for the school newspaper and competed as a Varsity Fencer. I vigorously pursued my academics and found a passion in the study of organizational structure and interpersonal dynamics. As an undergraduate, I conducted an in-depth, independent study of non-verbal communications and did an internship at a local social services agency where I received training as a Structural Family Therapist. I had the opportunity to receive training from the Philadelphia Child Guidance Center, the then home of Salvador Minuchen, the father of SFT.
ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Masters in Education - (in process) - NJCU - My varied experiences and training exposed a true passion to share and convey knowledge to others. I have been fortunate to be able to work with both adult and adolescent learners in formal classrooms and in real-life scenarios. In an effort to formalize this passion and take it to the next level, I have begun my pursuit of a Masters in Education while seeking full alternate route teaching certification from the New Jersey Department of Education. Presently, I possess a Certificate of Eligibility to teach Psychology and am actively pursuing other disciplines including business education and social studies.
